The 1930s Canterbury cottage underwent a transformation by Inbetween Architecture, addressing a dysfunctional kitchen and disconnection from the backyard. Overcoming heritage restrictions, a split-level addition was designed, creating multifunctional spaces and a new way to engage with the garden.
Timber and bricks were used in the reimagined material palette, bringing contemporary versatility to the historical elements. A bluestone slab on site was reused in the garden as a bench seat.
The design's success lies in its balance of heritage and innovation, impacting both functionality and inspiring the owners, one of which is an artist.
