At only 5m wide, this Melbourne terrace home of designer Dan Gayfer needed to make use of every square millimetre to ensure enough space, flexibility and functionality for his family. He did this by really analysing the needs of his family, such as, did they really need a dedicated laundry room, or would they prefer more living space?
A feature of this home are the tiles used throughout, in conventional areas such as the bathrooms and kitchen splashback, but also in places you wouldn't expect them, like the rear exterior facade. There was functional reasoning behind this, for their durability and low maintenance, but also, Dan's father is a tiler and did the tiling for his own home, which is a special bond to have.
