This microscopy image shows projections of a type of immune cells, mononuclear phagocytes (green), in very close proximity to epithelial narrow cells (red) in the epididymis. Understanding how these epithelial cells communicate with immune cells will help us better understand certain causes of male infertility and develop male contraception methods.

The Battistone Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital is focused on exploring the molecular basis of mucosal immunity in the urogenital tract, with the aim to identify new diagnostic and therapeutic targets for kidney injury and male infertility.
