Undisciplining II conference session with Professor Tannistha Samanta and Dr Demet Gülçiçek.
Conference programme description:
Publishing from the Global South in established peer- reviewed platforms (which are mostly managed by researchers and institutions from the Global North) is an arduous and uncertain process for scholars of colour. Consequently, the entangled politics of language, geography, identity, citation inequity and knowledge production more generally are key factors in Global South researchers’ professional success. Through a dialectical process, this session will discuss the possibility of harnessing the promise of academic practices that can be both empowering and subversive. Ultimately, this session hopes to create shared solidarities and pedagogical communities across geographical and intellectual borders.
Professor Tannistha Samanta is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, FLAME University, India
Dr Demet Gülçiçek is Associate Professor of Sociology at Munzur University, Turkey and an honorary researcher at the Centre for the Study of Women and Gender, Warwick University.
