Welcome back, Llama Paws striders, walkers and explorers and come with me today as I take in an old railway line, and some other country delights around Nottinghamshire.

Today’s walk begins in the market town of Bingham, just east of Nottingham itself. From the central car park I head west until I can pick up the Bingham Linear Park – a route along an abandoned railway line. Imagining the joys of trains of days gone by, I walk south eastwards along the raise embankment, through tunnels and out into the countryside beyond the town. All is going well until I run into a thicket of brambles like you’ve never seen before barring my way. But being an intrepid explorer, I risk a serious scratching and forge onwards until I can finally pick up a field path again.

Then it’s on through woodlands and along quiet country roads to the little village of Granby, where I soon find myself surrounded by cows but mostly enjoying the field pathways once more. After passing some very friendly horses, and incredibly pre-harvest crops, I come out onto the roads once more. Quiet country lanes give way – momentarily – to the busy A52 road. But then I’m off through the delightful villages of Whatton-in-the-Vale and Aslockton, and drinking in all the history and contemporary life they have to offer.

Leaving the villages behind, I continue along the country lanes until I encounter tiny Scarrington, where I encounter a rather surprising object – and the whole reason for the route I’m walking today. Then it’s a little road walking and lots of lovely rich farmers fields for a couple of miles to the village of Screveton at the northern apex of my route. Pausing to admire the village, I pick up the roads down to Car Colston – an exclusive and well distributed settlement. From here I pick up the field paths once again, and after another few miles pass through Bingham Railway Station as I return to the town. Finally, it’s just a hop, skip and a jump to Eaton Place and my car, at my journey’s end.

And if you’ve enjoyed this walk – don’t forget to vote Llama by giving me a like!
