Ahead of key diplomatic meetings next week on the crisis in Ukraine, a French warship is en route to the Black Sea to join the US Navy destroyer Donald Cook for joint military exercises for what the Pentagon claims is part of the US commitment towards mutual goals in the region. The talks involving EU, US, Ukrainian and Russian officials have been arranged as tens of thousands of Russian troops continue to amass on Ukraine's borders, a threatening sign of a further possible invasion following the annexation of Crimea last month. Yesterday, NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen demanded Moscow pull back its troops if it wants talks to begin, adding that diplomacy was preferred to the military option. Recently, NATO fighter jets held drills in Lithuania as a show of solidary among the Baltic States who also feel threatened by Russia's military presence in Ukraine.
