The World Map Interface & Flight Planning | Bonus: Skyvector & Flight Aware info
The first time you enter the World Map you may be confused on the many ways to set up a flight plan or how to use the filters options to see more information or declutter your map.
This should help you understand many of your primary options.

Flight Planning Options on the World Map Interface.
- DIRECT GPS: (Enter a departure and arrival and get a DIRECT TO, GPS flight plan,
- VOR to VOR: Similar to the above. Using Radio NAV points rather than Ground Radio.
- IFR Low: INTRUMENT Flying Routes. Imagine MAPPED Highways in the sky at different altitudes. This is the low highway.
- IFR HIGH: Instrument Flying Routes that use higher altitude, established map routes.
- Departure Routes = SIDS. Established routes to use when leaving an airport. Facilitating departures to a specific compas direction.
- Arrival Routes = STARS. Established Arrival routes facilitating flights coming in from different compass headings.
- Using the World Map Filters to enable seeing ILS Frequencies. You will need to use this option to see runway ILS transponders. The Frequencies will now be available too.
BONUS INFORMATION! The MSFS Visual Flight Map used while IN-FLIGHT ( Unfortunately at this time) DOES NOT have all the information you will need. Example: ELEVATIONS!
For this it is VERY HELPFUL to use a THIRD PARTY APP like: SKYVECTOR and or FLIGHT AWARE.
While In-Flight you will need access to RADIO NAV Frequencies, Terrain Elements for Visual Navigation, Elevation info, Airspace Info, Airport ATIS Frequencies, etc.
- IN NORTH AMERICA USE THE FREE MAPS at SKYVECTOR.COM for FLIGHT PLAN INFO.
- Using Flight Aware. This is a neat tool to create detailed flight plans OUTSIDE of MSFS and LOAD them into MSFS! Particularly handy for airliner flying!
