5-A Recovering from a stagger (Striking Attack)
(Recommended rank: up to 1st Dan)
If you are attacked while you are staggering, you can be knocked down, or floated into a midair combo.
But in most cases, if you use the directional buttons and other buttons to recover from the stagger, you will be able to block those attacks.
This is called stagger recovery, and is an important defensive technique.

5-B Recovering from a stagger (Throw)
(Recommended rank: 1st Dan or above)
Certain throws will leave you in a staggered state.
This stagger, like those caused by striking attacks, makes it impossible to guard against follow-up striking attacks.
To defend against follow-up attacks, you must use stagger recovery as you would after being staggered by a striking attack.

5-C Avoiding down attacks
(Recommended Rank: Up to 1st Dan)
After you are knocked down, if you don’t get up quickly enough, your opponent can follow up with a down attack.
While you are on the ground, you can get up sooner by rapidly tapping the directional buttons and other buttons.
If you get knocked down and your opponent tries to do a down attack, get up quickly to avoid it.
