1. Using striking attacks.

1-A: Breaking through a defense (recommended rank: up to 1st Dan)
If a striking attack is blocked, it doesn’t do any damage.
But, mid attacks can break through a low guard, and low attacks can break through a high guard.
When using striking attacks, mix up mid and low attacks to force your opponent to shift their defense.
Exercise 1-A:
Character: Any
Dummy: Any
Recording 1: Guard High
Recording 2: Guard Low
Playback: Random
1-B: Getting a counter(Recommended rank: up to 1st Dan)
If you hit your opponent as they are beginning an attack, it becomes a counter hit.
Compared to normal hits, counter hits do more damage, and create a more advantageous situation afterwards.
You can also get counter hits if you interrupt a throw or reversal motion before they activate.
