The much-anticipated follow up to my Cordless Drill Kayak Motor video is my patented Line Trimmer, Whipper Snipper, Weed Whacker outboard motor. I built this outboard motor out of an old used Ryobi curved shaft, interchangeable implement (Expand-It) Line Trimmer I had laying around which needed a new carburetor.
HOW TO BUILD
Step 1:
To convert it to an outboard the middle shaft section needs to be removed and kept for later. You will need to use the line trimming implement for the prop shaft. Simply remove the trimming head and install a Watersnake prop which is the perfect size and spin direction.
Step 2:
Insert the implement shaft directly into the engine as the engine has the same drive shaft as the removed section. The engine and clutch combo can directly drive the prop now.
Step 3:
Find a tube tee piece that will fit the shaft size to adapt the middle shaft section as the tiller handle. Slide this over the prop shaft and then attach the tiller handle.
Step 4:
The throttle control will need to be turned around on the shaft and the throttle cable and kill switch wires lengthened to suit the new tiller handle.
Step 5:
Build yourself a transom clamp which needs to both tilt and spin to accommodate the prop shaft. Make sure it can rotate through a full 360 degrees to allow the motor to reverse.
