Watch the full speech by the new progressive and first female Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, YBhg. Dato’ Seri TPr. (Dr.) Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif. She previously was the Mayor of Georgetown, Penang, in 2008 when Georgetown and Melaka obtained their joint UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2008.
Hence, her keen interest in the Malaysian Shophouses and their influence on the city and culture in the country. In this speech (on her 68th day in the job as Mayor) she recounts her first intensive week in the job with the infamous sinkhole incident on day no. 6. How she became Mayor of Kuala Lumpur on the request by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. And how she really wants to deliver a better city for Kuala Lumpur, also on the short term.
