What is Audience Targeting?
Audience Targeting is a tool on Google Ads that allows you to target users based on who they are.
This takes into account, their interests, demographics and intents - based on the information Google can find.
Audience Targeting uses different types of Audience Segments that can be applied to ad campaigns, such as Search, Display, Video, Hotel and Standard Shopping.
In-market Segments:
Targets users based on their recent purchase activity.
So, if a user has previously purchased certain products, Google can use this information to target them with ads that promote similar products.
Affinity Segments:
Targets users based on their interests.
Google uses information from their activity online to understand what topics users are interested in.
For example, if someone watches a lot of make-up tutorials on YouTube, Google can use this information to target them with ads that promote make-up.
