We were recently visited by this awesome 2023 VW Amarok 3.0 V6. The customer had already purchased a competitor’s tuning box, however they had a feeling it wasn’t delivering their quoted gains. Now, we often get asked the question about the similarities of tuning boxes, as most people assume that as they connect at similar points in the engine, that they must do the same. However that’s not always true and can totally depend on what the software is physically adjusting. Let’s see what we find from this one…
We soon had it strapped up on the rollers to put it to the test.
It’s also worth mentioning here, that these vehicles currently have a locked ECU with no way to read or write the ECU data. This means that while traditional remapping is impossible, our tuning box can give owners the opportunity to make fantastic gains without requiring a traditional ECU flash. This has the added benefit of being traceless once removed for warranty purposes.
We first ran the stock test, showing the results here at 0:15. Nothing too much to note, however both power and torque running slightly lower than manufacturer quoted. Power showing 230hp compared with a 237hp quote, and torque showing 584Nm compared to a 600Nm quote. Nothing too out of the ordinary with those though, as we often see slight fluctuations.
We then re-installed the competitor’s tuning box the customer had doubts about, and tested to see what gains had been made. Taking a look at the dyno graph here at 0:41 you can see that it was only making a 13hp gain, with only 51Nm of torque, as well as making a slight loss in power early in the rev range. Now considering their website quotes a gain of 57hp with 84Nm of torque, it was clear that these were miles off the mark.
We therefore removed this hardware and installed our specifically designed Pro + Boost SENT box instead. We can now see healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how the Amarok feels to drive.
Peak power was increased from 230hp at stock, up to 271hp with our box. If you take a look at the dyno graph here at 1:07 you can see the change in that curve (dotted red and blue lines). Bringing that power in as soon as possible, whilst holding across that entire section of the rev range, it really transforms how that power is delivered.
Torque with our box also saw a great improvement. Moving that stock figure of 584Nm up to 691Nm with the box. If you take another look at the dyno graph (solid lines), you can again see how we lift that torque and hold throughout the entire rev range. Pay attention to the whole of that midsection, where you can really see where we lift that power and torque, delivering those gains exactly where it’s needed.
