In this latest hot-hatch tune and dyno test, we have this Abarth 595 140hp in for a full custom ECU remap with dyno testing. This customer opted for our linear and max tunes, applied to the sport and non-sport modes. Essentially, this will allow the customer to take full advantage of that sport mode, giving everyday drivability when sport mode is disengaged (at lower revs), and then maximum gains across the full rev range once it’s enabled. Let’s see how this shapes up…

Firstly, we take the Abarth with completely stock software. We get it strapped up on to the rollers, and take it for the first set of tests to establish what the factory mapping is producing. You can see the stock dyno graph here at 0:16. You can see that power and torque are both running pretty spot on to what the manufacturer quote, showing 139hp and 228Nm of torque.

Once we are happy that we have everything logged and the stock figures are dialled in, it’s time to connect to the ECU. We use our Autotuner system to connect directly on to the ECU. The process of this custom tune is very much a hands-on, ‘fine tweaking’ procedure. We make several alterations to the software, adjusting the exact parameters we need and configuring the software files to give us that increased power and torque. Here, we also look at applying those gains in the exact points in the rev range, and fine tweaking that sport mode function.

Once we are happy with our alterations, we take it for further dyno testing, allowing us to monitor the engine responses in real time, data logging the entirety of the test. Once the first few tuned runs are complete, the data is analysed and conclusions can be made as to where further adjustments and alterations can be made. Again, we configure this directly within the ECU, changing the exact parameters which are necessary to reach the requirements.

After these adjustments, there are further tests and it’s once again taken for more tuned runs. The data is logged and gains are recorded. This process is repeated several times, as we will constantly analyse and fine tune, right down to the final requirements, until we are happy that we are getting the very best results from this remap.

The final tuned dyno run can be seen here at 0:48 where we have finally finished altering everything, giving us the complete results. Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how it feels to drive.

If we first take a look at the linear tune applied to the non-sport mode, which can be seen here on the dyno graph at 1:00 and is reflected by the green lines. You’ll see that when sport mode is disengaged, the customer will experience stock performance up until around 3500rpm, where you’ll then see those awesome power and torque increases are applied. This gives the customer that everyday drivability, but when they need it, they will have access to that increased performance, right up to 166hp peak power and 236Nm of torque.

Now looking at the max tune applied to the sport mode function, which is reflected again on that dyno graph but now on the blue lines. You’ll see that when sport mode is enabled, the customer has access to maximum gains across the whole of the rev range. Power increases move from a 139hp stock figure, up to 176hp at its peak. Torque moving from 228Nm at stock up to 324Nm at its peak. Looking across the whole of that rev range, you’ll see really impressive increases, giving much more consistency, and delivering those gains right down in those lower revs.
