The 2023 tax season in the U.S. is about to begin. Here are the key takeaways and dates to remember:
1. E-filing servers at the IRS open on January 23, 2023.
2. We highly encourage electronically filing your tax returns. Do NOT paper file because processing takes forever!!!! IRS offers free file options (see link below).
3. The filing deadline is April 18, 2023, because April 15 & 16 are weekend dates, and April 17th is Emancipation Day.
4. Extensions can be filed by submitting IRS Form 4868 electronically or via paper. We recommend e-filing.
5. Child Tax Credits (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). If you submit a Form 1040 that claims either of these credits, the IRS cannot legally release your refund until mid to late February. So, filing earlier won't speed up your tax refund processing.
