EP48: How To Find Your Identity Through The Arts | BPerryFilms Podcast
On Episode 48 of BPerryFilms Podcast, I share a live presentation of my segment at the Dean College’s 7th Annual Black Excellence Showcase. A Black Organization called My Black Speaks had asked me if I could come to the showcase and be a guest speaker to help give motivation to the current students, Alumni, and Franklin Community expressing what being Black means to me and how it is perceived. I told them that it would be too broad of a topic to talk about in my time slot allowed but I decided that I was going to talk about the Arts and how it unifies everyone.
In my presentation, I explained how it is important to have a creative side along with your logical side. It allows us to make rational decisions like the innovators that we strive to be. It is a shame that many places like schools and camps are cutting out the Arts because they feel like it doesn't emphasize STEM. STEM stands for Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In actuality all of those different departments include artists. Art can be defined as a source of medium, community, and communication. Art is a complex medium that embraces everyone’s perspectives and the way they communicate with each other. This could be done by written documents, movement, sounds, design, and agriculture, and let's not forget about culture.
I share the experiences that I have gained from being in the creative field of Dance throughout my career. I shared that I had trademarked the term “Artistic Creator” a person who has been in the industry of their medium for an extensive period and has mastered their art. They have found new methods to bring their community with them and influence them to create their definition of art no matter what their circumstances look like.
