This is my most ambitious project to date. I took around two weeks to complete it and could not be happier. As a disclaimer I would also just like to say that the maps are generalized and are not meant to be that accurate. I have tried to squeeze in as much information as possible but found it necessary to split the documentary up into three shorter movies. This is the first one and I hope to finish the second one in even faster time.
The documentary details the immediate dynamics that led to the February revolution which installed the Russian provisional government. It then explains the later October revolution which established Soviet Russia. From then on I talk about the revolutionary and nationalist dynamics throughout the empire. Many videos on the topic usually focus on Russia so much that they lose focus on the smaller yet important nationalities. This video is supposed to fill in the gaps.
I would also like to state that I left Moldova out of some of the maps in part by accident and in part with intention. The reason is because the country did not play a decisive role in the war although it ended up creating a seperatist democratic republic which joined Rumania. Sorry if you are Moldovan and feel I have left you out.
The above critique also applies to the way I drew central powers boundaries. The focus of the video is on Russia and the Soviet Union, not on the central powers thus I felt no need to depict continental Europe with so much accuracy.
I hope you all enjoy this fascinating subject, as I mainly focus on the Baltic, Central Asia, and Ukraine. In the next video I will introduce the White Russians in the East led by Admiral Kolchak and will also focus a lot on European Russia and the Caucasus.
