As we head into Pride 2021, it's important to reflect on where we've been. There's still a long road ahead for LGBTQ representation in film, television and the media, but in the last several years animation has been taking the lead and giving, queer youth recognition, representation and visibility. Shows like Sailor Moon, The Legend of Korra, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Voltron, The Simpsons, and many animes from the 80's and 90's have been on the front lines of visibility.
