The best way to learn filmmaking is definitely to just get stuck in, but it definitely helps to have the 'learning films' idea in mind when making some of them. In a lot of ways this is similar to 'growth mindset', from the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. I've only ever run into this concept second hand, but the book is definitely on my reading list!
