Mac Pro 6,1 (or popularly called trashcan mac pro) might exposed to the risk of the dreaded : classic AMD GPU failure, but its occurrence is not as frequent as 2011 Macs lineups - iMac 2011, MBP 2011.
2011 Macs are mostly shipped with AMD Terascale architecture, by now all these GPUs are supposedly dead because of failure within wafer or defective balls below die size(that's why dosdude's disable GPU method was invented just to turn off this defective GPUs, and this is also the reason why iMac 2009-2011 GPUs are changed to Nvidia Kepler cards.
Unlike 2013 Mac Pro, AMD Firepro D300, D500, D700 are based on newer architecture, that is GCN 1.0. The same GPU chip for Firepro D300 can be found in iMac 2014 and 2015, but the occurrence of GPU failure is not as worst as the 2011 Macs lineup - where every single GPU literally died. The D300 is based on Pitcairn XT, while D500 and D700 is based on Tahiti. Using different GPU is allowed for each slot(board A or board B)
So in this video we proved that reflowing the GPU brings back the GPU to life, but as we all already know it will be dead right after pushing them to the limits. The best practice is to change GPU chip with the new one, and hopefully its not going to be dead again. (hopefully...lol). or you can pull out good chips out of good working GPUs.
