Billy Milligan's Story: (Incomplete)
Billy Melligan (William Stanley Milligan) (1955–2014) is one of the most famous people diagnosed with “multiple personality” in the history of psychiatry. Splitting personality Milligan consisted of 24 full-fledged personality.
Billy Milligan's story is told in Daniel Keese's documentary novels The Multiple Minds of Billy Milligan and The Milligan Wars.
“Dissociative personality disorder” is a condition in which several individuals are born and function within a single person, each of which is capable of intercepting control of the common body at different times.
Billy was born in Florida on February 14, 1955 and was the second child in a family of three children. His childhood can not be called calm: his father gradually sank into depression and alcoholism, eventually committing suicide when Billy was four years old. The boy's first signs of a split mind most likely appeared around this time, and by the time he was five, Billy already had three additional personalities.
So, the grounds for the trust of B. Milligan's story are:
• statements by his lawyers
• his biography written by science fiction writer
• a diagnosis made by a psychologist during the preparation of the defense in court.
As you can see, the evidence is missing. If you try to push off only from dry facts, there is nothing substantial that could convince us of the existence of the Milligan of those personalities that Daniel Keyes described in his book. There are in this case quite weighty oddities. If there are no facts about Milligan's multiple personality syndrome, then on the basis of which this criminal was sent not to prison, but to a psychiatric hospital? Lawyers do not count, their faith and the conviction of the innocence of Milligan should not be checked. The job of a lawyer is precisely to trust the defendant and make the court believe in his innocence. But then the approach to this case by the judge and the representatives of the prosecution is very surprising. Based on the memories of relatives of raped girls, both the defense and the prosecution unanimously concluded that it is impossible to judge Milligan as a healthy, full-fledged member of this society. Obviously, the judge due to some personal circumstances and convictions was forced to believe it. Sometimes, and such experienced people, it means that you can spend around your finger. The conclusion suggests itself that the odious human factor has worked here. The conviction of some psychiatrists played a cruel joke with everyone, forcing them to believe that Milligan must be regretted and not condemned. According to Milligan himself, from early childhood he was subjected to cruel violence by his stepfather. With this recognition, Billy formed an opinion as a victim of child abuse, as a person who, having no other possibilities, defended himself in such an extravagant way from a cruel world. The fact of violence was allegedly confirmed by the mother and sister of Milligan at the trial. But categorically rejected by Chalmer Milligan.
Having not been imprisoned as an ordinary criminal, but at the Athens Mental Health Center, the doctor of psychological sciences, David Cole, began to treat Billy. Milligan was precisely in the place where he wanted ... no, not to help, but only to study. There, underground experiments on people, nontraditional methods of treatment were actively practiced, and even talked about repeated cases of murder. Local doctors believed that lobotomy and electroconvulsive therapy are the best means to cure the sick mind.
Milligan's case entered the textbooks of psychiatry and became the basis for at least two documentary books about his life, not counting countless attempts to film his story. One of them was taken in the early 1990s by none other than James Cameron, but this idea ended in nothing. In 2015, information was confirmed that this time Milligan will play Leonardo di Caprio. Be that as it may, the only feature film in which the Billy Milligan story is used as a storyline is the Night Shyamalan's Split.
The Schismatic Channel (Shizmatic Channel) will tell the story of a man today, in which there were 24 individuals.
