From pastry chef to heroin addict and now trainee barista, Ecevit Tihsinhatga is rebuilding his life, through his job at Second Shot Coffee shop. Ecevit, or Edge as he is known by friends, lived on the streets for four years and became addicted to heroin. Even after he came clean, Edge struggled to find employment – an all too common problem people who’ve experienced homelessness face: 57% have been unemployed for three years or more, according to Crisis. The mission of this east London café, founded by 22-year-old Julius Ibrahim, is to help ease people who’ve experienced homelessness back into the working world and provide free food and drink to the homeless.
