Are you aching to try out the full version of ATLUS's best game since Persona 5, but aren't quite sure how it will perform on the Steam Deck? ATLUS recently released patch 1.03 to players on PC ... let's see how it performs!
And for those of you who are worried about spoilers, there are no plot spoilers in this video. Background music - which is pretty good - has also been turned off because YouTube has a habit of flagging modern game music for gameplay streams.
Patch 1.03, in addition to some performance improvements to the game, adds an antialiasing setting. You can switch between SMAA, FXAA, and no antialiasing. Honestly, the antialiasing doesn't appear to do much on the Deck, but I've included footage of both no AA and SMAA enabled so you can compare.
I have turned off framerate limiting for this test so you can see what maximum performance could be, though I have done most of my actual playing with the Deck's frame limiter set to 60 fps. (For battery life purposes, you might choose 45 fps on the OLED Deck)
My impressions of Metaphor the Deck so far: The game is definitely playable for a turn-based JRPG. Frame rates usually stay above 50 fps in dungeons and combat, though some complex scenes in town sometimes tanks that to 30fps. There is definitely room for ATLUS to improve the game more on PC, but so far the performance hasn't hindered my enjoyment of the game on the Deck. I used some earlier saves for this, but I have about 15 hours or so of playtime at this point. Taking it slow and enjoying it...
