Applied Mathematics for SAR and PolSAR Information Extraction (Avik Bhattacharya)
AMERSIE 2020 is a fall school on "Advanced methods for remote sensing information extraction”, organised by Norway and Spain GRSS chapters from the 3rd to the 5th of November 2020.
The school brought together leading researchers to introduce the attendees to advanced signal processing methods for information retrieval in large scale datasets collected by multiple remote sensors.

Avik Bhattacharya (Senior Member, IEEE) received the integrated M.Sc. degree in mathematics from IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur, India, in 2000, and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing image processing and analysis from Télécom ParisTech, Paris, France, and the Ariana Research Group, Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA), Nice, France, in 2007.,He was a Canadian Government Research Fellow with the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS), Ottawa, ON, Canada. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering, IIT Bombay (CSRE, IITB), Mumbai, India, where he is also leading the Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory. His research interests include synthetic aperture radar (SAR) polarimetry, statistical analysis of polarimetric SAR images, and applications of radar remote sensing in agriculture, cryosphere, urban, and planetary studies.,Dr. Bhattacharya received the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Visiting Scientist Fellowship at the Canadian national laboratories, from 2008 to 2011. He is the Founding Chairperson of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Chapter of the Bombay Section. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters (GRSL). He has been a Guest Editor of the Special Issue on Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing in India in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (J-STARS) in 2017. He was one of the guest editors of the special stream on Advanced Statistical Techniques in SAR Image Processing and Analysis in the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters in 2018. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE GRSL.
