On June 04, 2024, the HDCRS School began at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dora Blanco Heras, highlighting the importance of HPC in remote sensing.
Lois Orosa, Director of the Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA), discussed CESGA’s contributions to high-performance and disruptive computing and introduced the Galicia Quantum Technology Hub.
Prof. Gabriele Cavallaro from the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (Forschungszentrum Jülich) presented on the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the activities of the IEEE GRSS HDCRS Working Group, focusing on their role in advancing high-performance and disruptive computing in remote sensing.
Dr. Bertrand Le Saux explored advances in quantum computing for Earth observation, focusing on Quantum Generative AI and quantum neural networks.
The final lecture by Dr. Alvaro Moreno Martínez and Dr. Emma Izquierdo-Verdiguier introduced Google Earth Engine (GEE), covering its use for large-scale geospatial data analysis and machine learning applications.
