Change graphics card fan curves / undervolting for AMD GPUs (Polaris) in macOS & Hackintosh
By default, macOS can cause the fans on AMD radeon dedicated GPUs (dGPU) to constantly turn on and off as it repeatedly enters and leaves the zero RPM fan threshold. This can create extra fan noise as the fans spin up and down every 2 minutes.
This tutorial will allow you to specify custom fan curves on your graphics card (RX400 and RX500 series) without flashing the vBIOS using opencore bootloader. You can also underclock and undervolt for low temperatures and power consumption.
Unlike flashing the VBIOS which can be risky and break UEFI/Secure Boot, this is applied to only macOS and allows your GPU to run at its default/full speed settings when booted into Bootcamp/Windows.
Note: Real macs (Mac Pro 2010 and 2012) should use OpenCore Legacy Patcher and hackintosh users should use Opencore Bootloader. Tutorial for RX5000 and RX6000 series NAVI cards coming soon!
