==►La race a été créée par Janet Chifari en 1983. Le père était un chat noir aux cheveux longs et la mère était un chat noir et blanc aux cheveux longs. Leurs ancêtres siamois ont créé une coloration brune chez un chaton, Brownie. L'été suivant, Brownie avait une portée avec un chat noir à poil long. Il y avait deux chatons dans la portée: un garçon au chocolat et une fille au chocolat blanc. Remarquant les similitudes entre les types de pelage et le physique, Chifari a commencé son propre programme d'élevage.
