Update PHP Version WordPress cPanel | Update PHP Version in WordPress | Bluehost | GoDaddy
Remember, you don't HAVE to backup your site before you change the PHP version, but I recommend it before you UPDATE your themes, plugins, or WP version.
You want to update your site, plugins, and themes because typically the latest version is more likely to be compatible with the latest version of PHP. Typically. :)
Remember, you can change your PHP version without touching your site - they're two separate things. PHP is the road, and your site is a car. If the new type of road uses rails instead of asphalt, your site won't drive on the new version. But that doesn't mean anything's wrong with the car. It's just not meant to drive on that type of "road." Just switch back to a previous version if your site breaks and see what you need to update to make it happen. Usually it's just WordPress itself that needs to be updated to make that error go away, but if you update one thing, update everything.
And if you're updating.... backup your site beforehand. :)
