But how do you become a registered nurse (RN)? In general, you'll need to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and once you obtain that, there are three common paths you can take to become an RN.

1. Associate degree program. There are various associate degree programs available (ADN, ASN, AAS), all of which can help you become a licensed RN.
2. Diploma/certificate program. There are various diploma programs, typically offered by hospitals, in which you can earn your license to practice as a registered nurse.
3. Bachelor degree program. Finally, you can complete a bachelor's degree program at a local college or university. This is the path I chose to become a registered nurse.
