Mười chín tháng Tám - August Nineteenth (Vietnamese August Revolution Song)
The August Revolution (Cách-mạng tháng Tám) was a revolution launched by the Việt Minh (League for the Independence of Vietnam) against the Japanese imperial occupation and its Vietnamese collaborators in August 1945. Forces under the Việt Minh had seized control of most rural villages and cities throughout Vietnam, including the largest cities of Huế, Hanoi, and Saigon. Following the victory of the uprising, Việt Minh leader Hồ Chí Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on 2 September 1945.
However, the French colonialists returned with their army shortly afterwards, leading to the Anti-France Resistance War (First Indochina War).
