A while ago I dressed a Metahuman in a Digital Outfit inspired by the Fear of God brand. To bring it from Marvelous Designer to Unreal Engine was quite some work:
building the base model in Marvelous Designer
needing to build a retopologized version of it to run smoothly in Unreal Engine
baking hi poly details onto the lo poly version
having to do weight painting to make the outfit move with an avatar's bones
using the awfull physics painting tool in UE to determine which parts of an outfit would be affected by gravity
not being able to use material physics from Marvelous Designer
etc.
With the collaboration between Epic and CLO/Marvelous - and thereby the release of the NEW Chaos Cloth Simulation tool - the flow above has undergone a giant efficiency leap!
Now it's possible to export Digital Garments directly from Marvelous Designer to UnrealEngine, skipping or optimizing all of the flow above.
Below is my Fear of God Metahuman in the Chaos Cloth demo scene - for now just as a quick setup with previous .fbx exports without imported material physics.
The system will also link into Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) - which I will focus on in next updates ...
In short, a HUGE leap for Digital Fashion content creation I think, what is your opinion?
