Difference Between Endemic, Epidemic and Pandemic:
   • Inside Story of Pandemic Epidemic and...

The coronavirus, spreading like a wild fire these days, is a pandemic caused by infectious disease (COVID-19) which comes from a large family of viruses known as the “Corona”. The full form of this virus is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus 2.
China alerted the WHO to cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan on December 31. COVID-19 is thought to have originated in a seafood market where wildlife was sold illegally. Scientists have pointed to Pangolins, bats or snakes as possible sources, however, yet not been confirmed.
Dr. Tedros - WHO’s Director-General said, "Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unnecessary suffering and death."
The disease is continuing its spread across the world. About 212 countries have been reported till. The worst affected countries are- United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Iran, Russia, Spain, Germany, China, etc. Due to COVID-19 about 1.6 million people passed away out of 76 million confirmed cases and 43 million people were recovered in the entire world.
“We are in this together – and we will get through this, together.”
António Guterres - Secretary-General of the United Nations
Pakistan is on 10th-highest number of confirmed cases in Asia, after India, Russia, Iran, Iraq and Turkey etc. 3rd highest number of confirmed cases in South Asia after India and Bangladesh; and 27th highest number of confirmed cases in the world.

The virus was confirmed to have reached Pakistan on 26th February 2020, when two cases were recorded; one student in Karachi who had just returned from Iran and second was in Islamabad.
On 18th March, new cases had been registered in all four provinces, the two autonomous territories and Islamabad – Capital Territory.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initial response to the coronavirus was weak and indecisive. He refused to implement a nationwide lockdown, letting Pakistan’s four provinces implement their own lockdowns. The provincial actions limited the initial spread of the virus.
On 15 June, daily new confirmed case numbers reached their peak, with 6825 new cases recorded. Government then started taking a more visible role in the coronavirus response when the virus was out of control in June. The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) — the joint civilian-military body coordinated for the national COVID response, in which high-ranking military officers played increasingly visible roles, enforced “smart” lockdowns in hundreds of COVID hotspots across the country.

After that the daily new case numbers declined because of the lockdowns. But after the lockdown was removed the cases of corona virus rose in the second wave.
Government and health authorities of Pakistan are taking vigorous actions on coronavirus pandemic. Government of Pakistan has reported nearly +4,00,000 confirmed cases and 9,000 deaths.
Common signs of infection include fever, coughing and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, multiple organ failure and death. The incubation period of COVID-19 is thought to be between one and 14 days. It is contagious before symptoms appear which is why so many people get infected. Infected patients can be also asymptomatic, meaning they do not display any symptoms despite having the virus in their systems.
For prevention of this disease the WHO recommends simple and basic hygiene such as regularly washing hands with soap and water, and covering your mouth with mask and with your elbow when sneezing or coughing.
Maintaining “physical distancing” – keeping at least 1 metre (three feet) between yourself and others – particularly if they are coughing and sneezing.
Avoiding touching face, eyes and mouth with unwashed hands can also help.
People should avoid unnecessary, unprotected contact with animals and be sure to thoroughly wash hands after contact.
“May Allah keep everyone safe from this disease.”
Ameen
