In this video I show a microwave frequency multiplier prototyped using copper tape.
Frequency multiplication is done using a PIN diode, by the step recovery characteristics at turn off.

The input 120MHz signal is first amplified to a high level where the PIN diode can be excited.
The output of the PIN diode is band filtered by a hairpin filter centered at 1.2GHz, passing the 10th harmonic to the next stage.
The bandpass output is an amplifier to recover the level, as the 10th harmonic has low amplitude and is also reduced by the filter insertion loss.
The last stage is a stepped impedance low pass filter, used to clean the output of the 1.2GHz amplifier. This filtering improves the harmonic distortion at the output.
