This video provides you with tips to help you prolong/extend the life of your battery, saving you money in the long run!

These tips apply to all rechargeable batteries: car, marine, lawn and garden, powersport, golf car, etc. However if you will be using your battery infrequently or putting it into storage, please see our other video as well.    • Battery Storage - Off Season Battery ...

Check with your vehicle owner's manual for additional information on the proper procedures for disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Tips for a long lasting battery:
1. Upgrade to an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) for up to 2x longer life. Learn more here: https://autobatteries.com/battery-tec...
2. Always keep the factor battery shield/blanket. Never throw this away. If it’s missing, buy a new one at your local dealer.
3. Keep the terminals and cable clamps clean and free of corrosion.
4. Cleaning corrosion off your cables or terminals:
WEAR GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES.
Use a mixture of baking soda and water to create a paste-like solution
Pour the mixture on the corrosion to neutralize it
Use a wire brush or old toothbrush to work the mixture into all parts of the corrosion.
Brush away the remaining neutralized corrosion using a rag
Pour additional baking soda solution as needed until all corrosion is neutralized and all components are clean.
Remove the cable clamp (always remove the negative cable first) to further clean all of the cable clamp and the battery terminal. See here for instructions on replacing a battery:    • Video
Then use a cable clamp brush or sand paper to clean the inside of the cable clamp
Use a terminal cleaner or sandpaper to clean the battery terminal
Reinstall the positive cable clamp onto the battery terminal. The reinstall the negative cable clamp.
5. Keep the battery clean throughout it’s life. A dirty battery can lead to corrosion build-up, as well as self-discharge.
6. If your car will be sitting for longer than 30 days OR the voltage drops below 12.4V during any period of non-use, we suggest using a maintainer. The tool will keep your battery from discharging during periods of non-use.
Note that a maintainer is not a battery charger, and will not charge a discharged battery. You should use a charger if your battery is discharged.. then you can use a maintainer to keep the battery at a high voltage during times of non-use.
To charge your battery, we recommend the Optima D400 or D1200. These will both automatically charge and flip to maintain mode. Optima also makes a D200 maintainer that is ideal if you only need to maintain your battery.
