The presence of co-occurring conditions can complicate the treatment of eating disorders. A common case is with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In fact, as many as 35% of patients with eating disorders also have OCD, with particularly high rates for those diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder. This presentation provides an overview of why OCD and eating disorders seem to be so closely related and helps providers differentiate between the two conditions. It also offers guidance to providers on how to incorporate treatment of OCD into eating disorder recovery.
