The Dodson & Horrell Bolesworth International Horse Show hosted the Dodson & Horrell CSI3* 1.50m GP Qualifier in its main International arena on Friday. It was won by Paul Sims on Dream Roller, second place went to Carmen Edwards with Happy Valerie, and third placed was Yazmin Davies on Zanbowa Z.
The class was the second of two qualifiers with 50 top-ranking riders seeded through to the Grand Finale of the Show on Sunday, 3rd July, the Dodson & Horrell CS13* 1.5m Grand Prix.
The Qualifier was led by Adrian Speight until the jump off where there was very little between the top three. Sims won the tense round on a score of 39.06. Edwards secured second with a time of 39.27, while Davies was also in the sub-40s on 39.64.
Both riders are local to Bolesworth, and even play football together. Edwards had a few disasters before entering the ring with a taped-up boot to show for it. Sims wore an orange ribbon in honour of Dream Roller’s owners, whose grandson was diagnosed with Leukemia. Edwards wore a yellow heart, in honour of Shaz Quigley, a great friend of Bolesworth, who sustained a head injury in 2021.
Guy Williams took first place in the Bloomfields Horseboxes CSI3* 1.40m on 12-year-old mare, Crispina Z, owned by Tracy Holder. He said: “She wins ranking classes all over the world. She hasn’t jumped since Windsor so she was a bit fresh yesterday. She probably should have won as she’s very capable at that level.” Irish rider, Jessica Burke, took second place on Louisa Church’s Inpluss. Third place when to Jude Burgess on K M Martin’s Dreams of Don.
