Frozen to the Deck: The Mataafa Tragedy of 1905
This is a story of how one ship became two totally different worlds after breaking in half during the Lake Superior storm of 1905. For the 15 crewmen in the front, the Mataafa was a shelter—for the 9 crewmen in the stern, she became a death trap.
