Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one medium to another with a different density, due to a change in light speed.
This phenomenon, described by Snell's Law, alters the appearance of objects when observed through different media. For example, a straw in a glass of water appears bent or displaced at the water's surface because light rays change direction as they move from water (higher refractive index) to air (lower refractive index). This causes the submerged part of the straw to look angled differently compared to the part above water, and may also make it appear wider or magnified.
