Fargo is one of the Coen Brothers' best films, which is high praise considering their superb filmography. It's a wonderfully quaint but brutal crime thriller, all blanketed in pure white snow. The opening titles set the scene perfectly, with the characters emerging from the whiteness, and the music signalling the drama to come. Carter Burwell is their regular composer, and this is one of his most famous themes. The film's overall feel has been wonderfully translated to the TV series in the past couple of years, along with the music.

Written and directed by Ethan and Joel Coen, with cinematography by Roger Deakins and music by Carter Burwell. Starring Steve Buscemi, Frances McDormand, Williams H. Macy and Peter Stormare.
