Today, the Central Market on Rozhdestvensky Boulevard is a favorite place for Muscovites, where they can have a tasty and quick meal, meet friends and stop for coffee while walking. The history of the market is as follows: it appeared in the 1840s, when a “bird market” with numerous “live rows” was located near Trubnaya Square, where you could buy pigeons, small birds and dogs.
In 1961, a typical "Central Market" building was built in the Soviet architectural style, and a grocery store was located here.
In 1994, the market was closed and most of it was demolished.
In December 2017, the “Central Market Food Court” appeared on the site of the historical Central Market and instantly became one of the most popular food courts in Moscow.
