Sony FDR-AX100 quick test (4K consumer camcorder, UHD, 2160p 24-25fps, PAL-version) short review
This is a very quick sample video I shot with the FDR-AX100. Everything was produced within 24 hours after unpacking the device and I did not tune the picture settings. Colorgrading was'nt involved as well, so we're seeing the pure quality of the recordings. The CMOS-Sensor has some serious rolling shutter effects, fast movements or pans can't be shot nicely. That's a negative point -- sorry.
Depth of field and noise level are very convincing and actually much better than the Z100.
This device is a milestone in 4k consumer camcorders! It's compact and very well tuned in picture as well as sound quality. The audio in the clip comes from the recordings.
I really like the fast access to manual controls such as aperture, focus or gain.
The verdict: It's a wonderful camcorder for taking it with you and recording family events in mindblowing resolution. With the effective XAVC-S compression, files are lightweigt and fast to edit. Higher frame rates are missing.
