Gluteus medius is an important abductor and stabilizer of the hip joint and is implicated in several clinical conditions including low back pain, patellofemoral pain, IT band syndrome, hip impingement, gluteal tendinopathy and ACL tears.
Pain in the gluteus medius region is quite common, but can often be relieved with a bit of massage and strengthening.
