SpaceX's Falcon Heavy Is About To Launch Next Week! Falcon 9 Starlink Launch | Episode 49
The countdown has begun, with less than a month to go until the launch of NOAA's GOES-U satellite on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket. The satellite, which is the fourth in the GOES-R series, has already made its way from Colorado to Florida, where it is undergoing final preparations for launch. The mission's two-hour launch window opens on June 25 at 5:16 p.m. EDT, and Space.com will be providing live updates and coverage of the launch.
Before GOES-U can blast off into space, it must first be placed atop its Falcon Heavy rocket. This is scheduled to happen on June 13, followed by a move to Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center on June 14. Final spacecraft testing and configuration will take place on June 22, and the encapsulated assembly will roll out to the launch pad on June 23.
GOES-U is the latest in a series of satellites that have been revolutionizing weather forecasting and space weather monitoring. The first launch in the series, GOES-R, took place in 2016, followed by GOES-S and GOES-T in 2018 and 2022, respectively. However, GOES-U is set to outshine its predecessors with its advanced instruments and improved design.
