From explosions underwater to hurricanes at sea, ships have to be ready to encounter anything in open water. So before they’re officially launched, ships have to pass some extreme sea tests similar to how a car is crash tested. Tests depend on the type of vessel it is, but they can get pretty crazy. Some ships are tested in rough hurricane weather, some are tested in icy cold polar conditions, some have to be able to submerge themselves and lift other ships out of the water, and some are tested with underwater explosions!
