No one with an interest in health would eat or promote canola oil. It’s ultra processed, so people interested in their health tend to opt for closer-to-natural fats like olive oil, butter, or coconut oil. But does this mean “seed oils cause heart attacks” as some suggest? There is no data to support this, in fact, there is some decent evidence suggesting the other side of the argument.
So why all the scare tactics? Every diet tribe needs an enemy, so the low carb community spins crazy stories about “seed oils” to play that role. The irony is that the low carb community doesn’t actually have any enemies. If low carb works for you, you’ll get nothing but high fives all around.
The problem with fake boogeymen in nutrition is they distract you from the real boogeymen, and there are plenty of those to be scared of.
