Sabres vs Hunters - Battle over Peshawar (04 December 1971, Indo-Pak War)
Open hostilities between India and Pakistan commenced on 03 December 1971 by Pakistani 'pre-emptive' airstrikes against Indian Air Force Bases. India replied by similar strikes the next morning, resulting in many aerial clashes between the attacking fighter-bombers and the defending fighters. In several cases, the opposing aircraft were subsonic, older types such as Hawker Hunter and F-86 Sabre. Two Pakistani Flight Lieutenants, Salim Baig Mirza and Khalid Razzak sat in the cockpits of their F-86 Sabres for hours until they were finally scrambled against Indian aircraft about to raid their airbase at Peshawar. This developed into a four aircraft dogfight at low level, right above the airbase.
