(lutropin, lutrophin, LH)

A hormone produced by gonadotropic cells in the anterior pituitary gland.

In females, the acute rise ("LH surge") triggers ovulation and development of the corpus luteum.

In males, it stimulates Leydig cell to produce testosterone. It acts synergistically with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
(In males, it is also called interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH), because Leydig cell is also called interstitial cells of Leydig.)
