In this video I show you the basic schematic of a single transistor self oscillating circuitry. Among the hobbyist this is known as Joule thief circuitry. I show you how to make it with NPN or with PNP transistors. Impact of transistor type, base resistance and input voltage on the output waveform is shown. In a future video I will make a two transistor circuit and will compare the efficiency of that with a single transistor circuitry. Also a Matlab Simulink model of such circuitry will be built in the future.
The fact that the circuit start by itself is interesting and makes this simple circuit very useful for DC/DC low power converters.
