I have been told that, “The early bird gets the worm”. This is a mantra that I remind myself of frequently. I was also told routinely that I should make myself useful to those around me. I work to do that daily both around, and within, my profession. Generally, this means I am in early. And you can often find me doing things that are not a part of “job description” merely because shit needs to get done, and at times I happen to be around to do it.
My old school socks remind me of those words imprinted on my mind by my parents who were Jamaican immigrants that worked hard in a new country to provide for their young children. I continue to work hard to show appreciation for all that they did to provide for me.
