Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency is a genetic disease that destroys the liver in early childhood. Until recently, patients with the disease had no treatment options.
For nearly 30 years, SLUCare pediatric gastroenterologist Dr. Jeff Teckman has studied AAT. That research has contributed to a treatment that’s not only stopped liver damage in some patients, but has even reversed the effects of the disease.
Meet the doctor and the AAT patients who have a new lease of life in this episode of The Science of Healing, which aired Jan. 5, 2023, on KMOV-TV 4. More information online at www.slucare.com
